Bollington

Just an hours gentle cruise to moor at Bollington Aqueduct, Sue wanted to use the laundrette in town to wash the bed linen (well it has been a year). We handed the laundry to a Dot Cotton look-alike with a fag hanging between her lips, then we went and explored Bollington and found the CoOp for a few supplies.

On the way back to the boat we came across the Vale Inn, it is quite easy to miss as its in the middle of a row of terraced cottages.. a good place to wait for the laundry to be ready. Baguette and Bollington Best for lunch, one of the regulars at The Vale Inn told us that Bollington was in the Guinness book of records for the worlds highest ratio of pubs to people, perhaps this is why the area is also known as 'Happy Valley'.

Clarence Mill
The present Clarence Mill built-in 1877 replaced an earlier mill of 1837. It has had a chequered history from its cotton spinning heyday, it was a stocking manufacturer in the 1930s, a billet for US Marines prior to the D-Day landings and now a mixed-use of residential and business premises.
